The accident caused an alarm citizen, a student and three fire officers and soldiers to be injured. At present, the injured are out of danger and are receiving further treatment and observation in the hospital.
At 11: 40 on September 14th, Nanning Emergency Linkage Command Center received an alarm saying that a factory near Xijin Primary School, Xijin Village, Anji Avenue, Xixiangtang District, Nanning had a gas leak. The command center immediately mobilized the Nanning Fire Secret Service Brigade to rush to the scene for disposal, and immediately launched the emergency response plan for chemical disasters and accidents, and mobilized relevant departments to rush to the scene. The special service brigade immediately dispatched anti-chemical decontamination fire engines, emergency rescue fire engines, 18-ton water tank fire engines, backup support vehicles and 35 officers and men to the scene for disposal according to the combat programming for hazardous chemicals disposal.

The firefighters who evacuated and rescued quickly ran into the campus and told the teacher: "There is a toxic gas leakage around the school, and the situation is very critical!" Immediately, firefighters assisted the teacher to evacuate more than 100 children who were playing on campus to safety. Subsequently, eight officers and men of the reconnaissance team of Nanning Fire Service Brigade wore protective equipment and went deep into the leakage area to carry out reconnaissance work to find the source of toxic gas leakage. When the fire officers and soldiers entered the roadside of the village highway, a truck driver who drove by told the firefighters that the source of the leak came from a factory in front. When firefighters came to the factory, they found that more than a dozen workers in the factory were still working in the factory, completely unaware of the danger. Firefighters asked the factory staff if there was any leakage of hazardous chemicals, and the factory staff told the firefighters: "No!" " However, many employees near the factory are washing the floor with water next to an above-ground storage tank. Firefighters immediately went to check and found a crack in a valve opening in the middle of the tank. Some liquid leaked from the crack and dripped on the bottom of the tank, and the exhalation valve at the tank opening also leaked. Fire officers and soldiers asked the factory staff to know that the tank was loaded with nearly 8 tons of formaldehyde! Fire officers and soldiers immediately asked the employees in the factory to evacuate from the scene, but the employees in the factory completely ignored the firemen’s persuasion and told them that they usually worked with formaldehyde and would be fine. The commander immediately ordered the firemen to pull out the employees who refused to be persuaded and take them away to safety. Under the education of firefighters, more than 20 workers were evacuated from the factory.
At 12: 25, the Nanning Municipal Government, the Nanning Fire Brigade and other responsible persons rushed to the scene one after another, and set up a field headquarters with the heads of the public security, safety supervision and environmental monitoring departments at the scene. The headquarters decided that the scouts of the special fire brigade would stop the leaking tank and mobilize two water tank fire engines to enter the leaking area for decontamination. After nearly half an hour’s efforts, the two leakage points of the above-ground tank were successfully blocked by special firefighters. The decontamination team decontaminated the leaked tank and surrounding environment in the factory again. The headquarters also transferred a truck to carry sawdust to cover the leaked formaldehyde around the irrigation area to prevent the leaked formaldehyde liquid from spreading. At 15: 15 pm, with the close cooperation of the departments of fire protection, public security, safety supervision and environment, the leakage source of the leaked formaldehyde tank was successfully blocked.
At 8: 25 that night, the headquarters transferred two tank trucks to carry out backflow disposal of formaldehyde remaining in the tank. Unfortunately, due to the rapid spread of the leaking liquid, an alarm crowd, a student and three fire officers and soldiers were injured in the accident. At present, the injured rescued by medical staff are out of danger and are receiving further treatment and observation in the hospital.
