On June 20th, 2016, the People’s Government of Qinghai Province, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and China Electric Vehicle committee of 100 jointly held the International Summit Forum on Lithium Industry-New Ecology in Xining, Qinghai. This forum is one of the important activities of the 17th China Qinghai Green Development Investment and Trade Fair, which fully embodies the theme of "open cooperation and green development".

At present, China has become the largest electric vehicle market in the world. One of the key components of electric vehicles is the power battery. The progress of battery technology and the improvement of safety are related to the success or failure of the marketization of electric vehicles. The core material of power battery is lithium, and Qinghai, as a major province of lithium resources, accounts for 77.52% of the national reserves, ranking first in the country. Rich lithium resources make Qinghai in a unique advantageous position in the electric vehicle industry chain. How to develop its advantageous position into an advantageous industry has always been the road explored by Qinghai, and it is also the key research topic of this forum.

Therefore, the country has raised the development of electric vehicles to the national strategy.

In the medium and long term, the primary factor that determines the development of electric vehicles in China is not the rapid expansion of production capacity, but the continuous accumulation of technological breakthroughs, which are increasingly strong product competitiveness. It is not necessarily the enterprises with the largest production capacity today that can stand firm, but the companies with the highest technical level and the strongest technical ability.

At present, Qinghai has listed the lithium resource industry as one of the five emerging industries, and put forward the "100 billion plan" for the lithium industry. The goal is to form a "100 billion yuan" scale complete lithium industrial chain integrating lithium resource development, lithium battery material production and lithium battery assembly and manufacturing in 2020, which will boost the development of China’s electric vehicle industry.
