The International Summit Forum of "Lithium Industry-New Ecology" was successfully held in Qinghai.
On June 20th, 2016, the People’s Government of Qinghai Province, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and China Electric Vehicle committee of 100 jointly held the International Summit Forum on Lithium Industry-New Ecology in Xining, Qinghai. This forum is one of the important activities of the 17th China Qinghai Green Development Investment and Trade Fair, which fully embodies the theme of "open cooperation and green development".
At present, China has become the largest electric vehicle market in the world. One of the key components of electric vehicles is the power battery. The progress of battery technology and the improvement of safety are related to the success or failure of the marketization of electric vehicles. The core material of power battery is lithium, and Qinghai, as a major province of lithium resources, accounts for 77.52% of the national reserves, ranking first in the country. Rich lithium resources make Qinghai in a unique advantageous position in the electric vehicle industry chain. How to develop its advantageous position into an advantageous industry has always been the road explored by Qinghai, and it is also the key research topic of this forum.

Hao Peng, Governor of Qinghai Province, delivered a speech at the summit forum, saying that lithium industry is a sunrise industry in the future and a new industry competing for development in the world. In recent years, relying on rich and unique resource advantages, Qinghai has initially formed an upstream and downstream integrated industrial chain, such as lithium extraction from salt lakes, lithium carbonate, and lithium battery manufacturing of anode and cathode materials.

Chen Qingtai, chairman of China Electric Vehicle committee of 100, said that China urgently needs to change the transportation energy structure and resolve the contradiction between energy and environment. The electric vehicle is a strong point for China to meet the new energy revolution, which can promote the upgrading of industrial structure, and it is also a feasible way to realize the car dream of China people. Therefore, the country has raised the development of electric vehicles to the national strategy.
As the core component of electric vehicle, power battery accounts for 40% of the production cost of all passenger cars & mdash; 60%。 Battery technology and battery industry have been paid more and more attention by the country, and the important reason behind it is that they both link batteries with the new energy revolution, which provides great imagination and broad development prospects for the battery industry.
Chen Qingtai pointed out that the core of the frontier competition in the power battery industry is technical competition, so we should be willing to invest in R&D. Once a breakthrough is achieved, we can grasp the initiative of competition and gain rich profits. In the medium and long term, the primary factor that determines the development of electric vehicles in China is not the rapid expansion of production capacity, but the continuous accumulation of technological breakthroughs, which are increasingly strong product competitiveness. It is not necessarily the enterprises with the largest production capacity today that can stand firm, but the companies with the highest technical level and the strongest technical ability.
(Mr. Zhang Yongwei, deputy director of the Enterprise Institute of the State Council Development Research Center and chief expert of China Electric Vehicle committee of 100, delivered a speech at the scene)
Zhang Yongwei, deputy director and researcher of Enterprise Institute of the State Council Development Research Center and chief expert of committee of 100 of China electric vehicle, introduced the development roadmap of China electric vehicle and summarized the development situation and characteristics of China electric vehicle industry in recent years. Zhang Yongwei said that the electric vehicle market in China, with pure electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles as the main technical routes, is the fastest growing in the world in terms of scale. Internationally, it is believed that hydrogen-based fuel cell electric vehicles will be the main direction in the future, and China is also closely following up on research and development.

Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of the Board of Directors of BYD Co., Ltd. said that the current mainstream of electric vehicles is still driven by lithium batteries, and even fuel cells need a lithium battery. Therefore, the demand for lithium resources will be great. With the development of electric vehicles, lithium, magnesium, copper and other resources will become more scarce.
On the forum, Sandra Retzer, Director of GIZ Transportation and Energy, German International Cooperation Agency; Huang Shilin, President of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.; Zheng Shixiong, Vice President of Samsung SDI Co., Ltd.; Gao Junkui, Vice President of Tianjin Lishen Battery Co., Ltd.; Jin Xiuling, Vice President of LG Chemical Co., Ltd.; Thorsten Lahrs, Vice President of Peking University Pioneer Technology Industry Co., Ltd. Ikoma Zongjiu, Chief Technology Officer of AIS Company of Panasonic Co., Ltd., and other domestic and foreign enterprise representatives and experts also expressed their opinions, and based on their own enterprise development, explored the road of ecological development of lithium industry.

Lithium industry is the foundation and lifeblood of electric vehicle industry. Relying on rich lithium resources, Qinghai Province has built an industrial framework and explored the industrialization path, which shows the outstanding vitality of lithium industry in Qinghai. This year’s "lithium industry-new ecology" international summit forum discussed how to promote the lithium industry to achieve a higher level and sustainable development, which opened the door to wisdom for the development of lithium industry in Qinghai.
At present, Qinghai has listed the lithium resource industry as one of the five emerging industries, and put forward the "100 billion plan" for the lithium industry. The goal is to form a "100 billion yuan" scale complete lithium industrial chain integrating lithium resource development, lithium battery material production and lithium battery assembly and manufacturing in 2020, which will boost the development of China’s electric vehicle industry.
